How We Started
I set up Levellers Press in 2012 to publish my own work when my
publisher refused some of my work fearing legal action from a theatre.
The process of publishing my books, plays and musicals has had some
obvious benefits and some obvious disadvantages. The disadvantages
are in sales and distribution which are very small. It also means my
new plays and books are not being published by one of the major
publishers (I have previously been published by Penguin, Methuen and
Oberon Books). It has, however, given me complete freedom, and the
power to publish what I like, how I like. That is an idea that appeals to
me more and more. For me it has been a revival of the ability to
write freely. I would like to try extending that freedom to other
writers. - Gregory Motton
